Richard Gottfried
for Rockville City Council |
Dear Rockville Friend,
Every city election brings unique challenges and a test of our abilities as a community to preserve our character and vibrant neighborhoods. Elected officials must be accountable to citizens. I am asking for your vote and support to bring the focus of our Rockville government back to you by:
- Protecting our schools from overcrowding. Hold our police and other public services to excellent standards by keeping our Adequate Public
Facilities Ordinance strong.
- Advocating for intelligent and realistic plans for future growth on Rockville Pike and other areas that respect the needs of our residents and serve our neighborhoods instead of serving only private interests.
- Preserving Rockville's parks and open spaces for our future residents. Support long-term goals to maintain the quality of life for our residents.
- Ensuring that residents' tax dollars fund services to residents, not subsidize development. Eliminate waste and provide responsible fiscal management of our community's resources.
- Promoting open, responsive and accountable government that encourages and values citizen input.
As a civic activist, I have served as the Twinbrook Citizens Association's treasurer for the past four years, providing financial analysis and interpretation, pro bono tax seminars, tax services for seniors, and financial planning seminars. I headed the Home Based Business Action Team that produced changes in our zoning code to help small businesses. In City Council meetings, I voiced my concerns numerous times about the financial drain on our revenues caused by the parking garages in Town Center. I was an early defender of Rockville's Adequate Public Facilities Ordinance (APFO) from attempts to weaken it during the Twinbrook Neighborhood Plan process and the Rockville zoning rewrite.
As a certified public accountant (CPA) and small business owner, I would bring unique qualifications and perspective to the Rockville City Council. I want to use my extensive experience as a CPA and professor of accounting to serve as your advocate at City Hall for sound decisions that benefit all of us.
I do not have any ties to special interests or any ties to the development industry.
I have only the interests of the residents of Rockville at heart.
Your vote is an investment in a future for Rockville where opinions are respected, where the discussion of your issues is inclusive, open, and transparent, and where you can trust that you are being given accurate and complete information.
I am committed to promoting open and responsive government that encourages and values citizen input. I will always work for Rockville's best assets, our livable, affordable, and historic neighborhoods, and I will support your issues in your neighborhood.
Let's work together to make Rockville a place where the citizens are respected and their needs are addressed first.
I would be honored by your vote on November 8.
Sincerely,
Richard Gottfried
Candidate, Rockville City Council
